What are we TEACHING our youth of today?

4 charged in Texas videotaped school beating

A teacher and three other educators at a Houston charter school were charged Monday in connection with the videotaped beating of a 13-year-old boy who was attending the school.

Teacher Sheri Lynn Davis, 40, was charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony, and could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted, said Harris County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Donna Hawkins.

A cellphone video recorded by another student shows Davis pummeling a 13-year-old boy in class on April 29. She was fired the following week from Jamie's House Charter School in northwest Houston.

Three school employees including school superintendent and founder Ollie Hilliard, principal David Jones and a teacher who witnessed the attack, Gabriel Moseley were charged with failure to report child abuse, a misdemeanor charge, Hawkins said. Those defendants face up to one year in Harris County jail and up to a $4,000 fine if convicted.

In the video, Davis is seen shoving, kicking and dragging the student, Isaiah Reagins, across the classroom floor as he tried to protect himself. Reagins suffered a black eye and other bruises in the attack. His mother, Alesha Johnson, sued Davis and the school.

"What today signifies is what the kids have been telling us and what we've been saying all along is in fact true," Brant Stogner, Johnson's attorney, said Monday. "This goes beyond just one teacher and one kid, this goes to show a deeper problem at that school."

Reagins is living out of town with family and attending vacation Bible school, Stogner said. He will not return to Jamie's House in the fall.

"He's recovering well from his physical injuries, but it's hard to tell the extent of his emotional and physical injuries," Stogner said. "At this point, we're going to allow him to be a little boy this summer and when school starts up, see how he handles being back in school."

An attorney for Davis, Chip Lewis, has said the attack started when she tried to break up a fight in the hall and heard her classroom door shut and lock behind her. She shook the door until she caught the attention of a student who opened it, and that is when the recorded incident began.

Davis has apologized for the beating, saying she was "without excuse" for the attack. She has also met with the student's mother, and apologized. On Monday, Lisa Andrews, another attorney for Davis, said the full story will come out in court.

"I feel very confident that when the entire story comes out and what precipitated Ms. Davis to do what she did, she will be vindicated," Andrews said.

An attorney for Moseley, Carvana Cloud, did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press. It was not immediately clear whether the other defendants had retained lawyers. A voicemail left for the school was not immediately returned.

Following the incident, the Texas Education Agency assigned a conservator to the school to review safety, discipline and teacher training and assist with improvements. The conservator will spend the summer reviewing the school's discipline and training policies, according to an agency spokeswoman.

Top Catholic Priest Accused of Sexually Abusing His Own Sons

A prominent Catholic priest, praised by Pope John Paul II as "an efficacious guide to youth," Father Marcial Maciel, sexually abused not only young seminarians under his control but also abused his own children, according to a lawsuit filed today in Connecticut by a man who claims to be Maciel's son.

In an interview to be broadcast Monday evening on ABC News Nightline, the priest's son, Raul Gonzalez, 30, says he thought his father worked for the CIA or an international oil company, until he saw the priest's picture in a 1997 magazine article detailing allegations of sexual abuse.

"My mom said, 'Is that you?' and my dad said, 'No, it's not me' and my mom said, 'Yeah, it's you,'" recalled Gonzalez in the interview, conducted by Jason Berry, an investigative journalist who first reported on widespread sexual abuse by Maciel at the Legion of Christ and writes for the National Catholic Reporter.

WHAT THE $%&@(*)!!! What is this world coming to? I know I am not the only one who is at a loss for words.... Talk to me people what are your thoughts on this one?

A man opened fire on his stepdaughter's family as they ate lunch in a California restaurant, killing her husband and six year-old son before turning the gun on himself. Jimmy Schlager, 56, walked into Del Taco in San Bernardino on Saturday lunchtime and exchanged a few words with his victims before firing two handguns. His stepdaughter's 33 year-old husband and their son were killed, while she and a five year-old boy were in critical condition after they were each shot at least twice.

OMG! There is more to this story but what is it? I read up on this story and it said that the stepdaughters mother had been dead and what would make the stepfather want to kill his stepdaughter and her family? Why would a person kill or even attempt to kill innocent children? What kind of relationship did the stepdaughter and her stepfather have? These are the kind of questions you have to ask yourself! We are praying for the mother and her five year-old son that they come out of this okay.
What are the questions that you would ask to get to the bottom of this? What is your opinion talk to us here at Public Fight....

A Washington State police officer is under investigation after civilians videotaped him struggling with a 17-year-old jay walker before punching her in the face.

Seattle police report that an unidentified police officer pulled a man aside for jay walking at the city's 3100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way Monday.

While the officer was scolding the man for the traffic violation, he reportedly saw four young women jay walk in the exact same spot and asked them to step over to his vehicle.
Seattle police say the women became
“verbally antagonistic toward the officer” and one attempted to walk away.

That woman, a 19-year-old seen in a turquoise top, was then “escorted back” to the officer's patrol car police and reportedly “began to tense up her arm and pull away from the officer while yelling at him” before breaking away from him several times.

Her 17-year-old friend seen in a pink top, then intervened and placed her hand on the officer's arm causing him to punch her in the face. Both women were handcuffed and arrested. The 19-year-old faces an obstruction of justice charge and the 17-year-old is under investigation for assaulting an officer.

OMG! Jay walking equals a punch in the face, being arrested and placed under investigation for assaulting an officer, are you kidding me. This world we live in has become so tainted and backwards it is unreal! When did it become against the law to use your freedom of speech and voice your opinion and especially if you are being treated unfairly regardless if the person you are speaking to is a police officer or not? i have never seen a profession that is supposed to uphold the law and they do the most breaking of the law! And on top of that they are such emotional babies how is it that if you say something to a police officer and it hurts their feelings they can arrest you, or if you curse at them they can arrest you, but they can talk to you like dogs, and treat you like the dirt beneath their feet! Where is the justice in that? I wish we could get the parties involved side of the story, to see what really happened or just get their feedback. But in the meantime we will listen to any feedback from the public out there what do you think about the issue of Police taking the law into their own hands, and acting like they are above the law? And who is really out there for the public, it is almost like we don't have a voice......

So the United States has faced another tragedy with the oil spill, and we have a lot of people namely the media reporting that President Obama is not correcting the problem in a timely fashion, and that the public is upset with how he is handling the situation all together. I was listening to the radio this morning and the comment was that a poll was taken and the same percentage of people are not happy with the way that President Obama is acting to correct the problem as there were people upset with George W. Bush. WOW REALLY! Ok first the current president has been faced with ridicule and the hope of failure since he was voted into the spot of President of the United States, and lets not forget Obama is one man with a lot of duties, and he did not cause the oil spill. I agree this is a horrible tragedy and I am sympathetic to all who have been affected or lost a loved one, and my prayers go out to each person but to get something fixed you have to be part of the solution not the problem. I often tell my kids and friends be the cure not the cause, this is what our President is doing! Nothing happens overnight, and things take time. Have we ever thought about getting on board and finding out a way we can be  the cure and not the cause? Ridiculing, downgrading or not supporting is not the cure that is the cause and we can't progress until we get involved and help be the cure! I wonder out of all the people who are complaining and so called upset about how things are being handled, are they actively involved in making a change? Are they rescuing animals, donating food or clothes to the families in need, ANYTHING?  What is your take on the situation? Talk to us give your opinion, and if you are making a difference let us know how...

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This Is A Public Fight Announcement
I was taught growing up that you can say anything to anybody it's just how you say it. Well that is true but you should not abuse that freedom just because you can! A lot of people lose sight of reality and also forget where they came from once they reach a certain social status and feel like they are above the rest of the world. Comments are often said of men that women act a certain way because of a mans status, come on we have all read and heard the stereo types! Black women are gold diggers, and white women treat there men like kings, or white girls perform certain acts in the bedroom that other girls will not. This is some of the most ignorant stuff I have ever heard in my life! If anyone a man or women is with a person who is a gold digger, or does not treat them the way they want to be treated; that is a reflection of that person. You attract what you put off! If you want to be treated like a king I suggest you treat your woman like a queen, if  you want someone that is bringing enough money to the table to match yours i suggest  you get a partner with a job, if you want your partner to perform certain things in the bedroom communicate....WOW! This is a little something we call having self respect, as well as common sense!

Public Fight's VISION

Our vision for Public Fight is to bring awareness to things that happen in life which are swept under the rug, and often lack attention or justice. When we say justice not just legally but just in everyday life situations when people are treated unfairly or get put into a situation  that is very unfortunate. We don't want to just focus on superstars and the child support payments they make each month, or how many times they have been married and divorced. We want to bring awareness to the reality of the things of this world and make a difference in someone's life!
